Anchorage Overview
Anchorage Courts and Clerk's Office
The Anchorage Superior Court and Anchorage District Court both operate from 825 West 4th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501. The main phone number is (907) 264-0514. This is the Nesbett Courthouse, named after Alaska's first Chief Justice. It handles more criminal cases than any other court in the state. The clerk's office is the place to go for case lookups, document copies, and certified record requests.
Hours at the clerk's office are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. There is a regular Wednesday closure from 8:00 to 9:00 AM for staff meetings. For domestic violence cases, hours are extended: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday noon to 8:00 PM. Weekend and holiday arraignments are held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex at 1300 E 4th Avenue. Call (907) 269-4100 for details on those proceedings.
The Anchorage courts are part of the Third Judicial District. This district covers a large portion of southcentral Alaska. Criminal cases at the District Court level include misdemeanors, DUIs, and some traffic offenses. The Superior Court handles felonies, major drug offenses, and serious violent crimes. Both courts share the clerk's office at the Nesbett Courthouse, so requests can be handled in one stop.

Search Anchorage Criminal Records Online
The Alaska Court System offers free public access to criminal case records through CourtView at records.courts.alaska.gov. This tool lets you search for any case filed in Anchorage by name, case number, or citation number. You do not need to create an account or pay anything to run a basic search.
Name searches in CourtView work with partial entries. Type a last name and the system returns all matching results. If you are searching for a business, enter the company name in the same field. Results show the case number, charges, filing date, court level, and current status. For cases that went to trial, the docket will include hearing dates, motions filed, and the final disposition or judgment.
CourtView covers records going back to roughly 1990. Sealed records and juvenile cases do not appear. If you need records from an appeal, use the separate Appellate Courts Case Management System at appellate-records.courts.alaska.gov. That system covers cases that moved beyond the trial court level.

How to Request Anchorage Court Records
If you need a physical copy of a filed document from an Anchorage criminal case, you can submit a request by fax to (907) 264-0873 or by email to 3ANRecordsRequest@akcourts.us. Out-of-town requests can also go to recordsfax@akcourts.us. Use Form TF-311 ANCH for all written requests. Incomplete forms will slow processing. Make sure you include the case number, the party name, and a clear description of what you need.
In-person requests at the clerk's window require a valid photo ID. If you do not have a case number, the staff can do a name search, but there is a research fee of $30 per hour for that service. Most standard requests take five to seven business days to complete. Large or complex orders may take longer. The court does not handle transcription services directly. Audio recordings of hearings are available from the clerk's office during regular hours.
Copy fees are set by the Alaska Court System. Plain copies cost $5 for the first document and $3 for each additional one. Certified copies are $10 for the first document and $3 for each one after that. Certification means the copy is confirmed as a true and accurate reproduction of the original court filing. If you need a copy of a search warrant or related affidavit, that process uses Form CR-714 and has its own handling procedure.
Payment can be made in person by cash, check, or money order. Remote requests should include a check made payable to Alaska Court System, or the clerk can advise on other options when you contact them to submit your request.
What Anchorage Criminal Records Are Available
Most criminal case records at the Anchorage courts are public under AS 40.25.110, the Alaska Public Records Act, and Alaska Court Rule 37. Available records include case files, charge documents, sentencing orders, motions, audio recordings of hearings, and final judgments. This applies to both misdemeanor cases at the District Court and felony cases at the Superior Court level.
Some records are not open to the public. Juvenile criminal cases are sealed and cannot be accessed through standard channels. Records sealed by a judge's order are restricted regardless of the case type. Certain domestic violence case files may have partial restrictions. Parts of a file containing sensitive details about witnesses or victims may also be withheld under state law.
Under AS 12.62.160, criminal justice information held by courts and law enforcement has specific rules about who can get it and in what form. This statute governs background check data and court-held records separately from the general public records access rules. Know which type of record you need before you request it, since the process and cost can differ.
Expungement in Alaska applies in limited situations: arrests not followed by charges, cases that were dismissed, and acquittals in some circumstances. Successful completion of a diversion program may also qualify. Expunged records will not appear in CourtView or be available through the standard request process.
Legal Framework for Anchorage Criminal Records
Criminal proceedings in Anchorage operate under state law. The Alaska Public Records Act at AS 40.25.110 sets the baseline for public access to court records. Alaska Court Rule 37 and Rule 37.5 govern what is filed with the Alaska Court System and which records are open to the public by default. Most filed documents are public unless a specific rule or court order says otherwise.
Sentencing statutes shape what ends up in a criminal case file. Under AS 12.55.085, probation orders are part of the court record and include all conditions set by the judge. These conditions can include treatment requirements, no-contact orders, and supervision terms. All of this is in the docket and accessible to the public unless the record is sealed.
For a full view of Alaska statutes referenced here, the Alaska Legislature's database is at akleg.gov. If you believe a records request was improperly denied, you can challenge that decision through the court system or contact the Office of the Attorney General for guidance under the Alaska Public Records Act.
